Web Scraping Forum is live: Discuss All Things Web Scraping
The web is the largest repository of data that has the capability to power an entire business and provide vital insights for the company’s growth. However, data on the web is often fragmented, served via complex technologies and unstructured. The emergence of web scraping solved this problem by delivering web data in a clean and structured format. With more and more businesses finding their own use case for web data extraction, web scraping technologies and solutions have gained a lot of momentum. Today, there are various types of solutions catering to the web scraping market from free tools, programmable libraries and browser extensions to dedicated services like PromptCloud. However, being a relatively new technology that’s still in its adoption stages, there’s a lot of fog surrounding web scraping and how it’s done.
One of the biggest challenges for anyone exploring web scraping and its technical aspects has been that there isn’t a dedicated forum to clarify their doubts or discuss the issues in general. To address this problem, we decided to launch a public forum dedicated to web scraping and its applications.
Web Scraping Forum was ideated to wedge this gap and provide web scraping enthusiasts a common platform and community where they can discuss all things web scraping. The forum is now live and open for anyone to sign up and participate. We’ll walk you through some of the features and guidelines of the forum here:
Topics of discussion
We have set 4 broad categories for discussions in the Web Scraping Forum.
Stuck while programming a web crawler? Or wondering if a site allows web scraping? This is the place to ask away all your longstanding questions about technical and legal aspects of web scraping. You could also share your approach to web scraping and get suggestions from the expert members on the forum.
2. Content resources
If you just wrote a great blog post, eBook or some other content piece on web scraping and are looking to share it with relevant audience, you can use the content resources section to post it. In case you found something on the internet and believe that it’d add value to the community, you’re more than welcome to post that in this section.
4. Tools and Tips
Stumbled upon a great tool that can assist in web scraping? You can share it with the community here along with other tips that you might have gathered. Sharing tips is a great way to contribute to the community.
If you have something that doesn’t fit into any of the other categories, post it here. However, it should still be relevant to web scraping and data extraction.
Users can sign up via any valid email address and depending on their activity on the forum, they will receive different badges. For example, if a user receives 5 likes on 300 posts, he or she will be awarded “Admired” badge. Likewise, if a user gets 300 clicks on a post, it’ll get a “Hot Link” badge. Also, there are four different trust levels that users are awarded based on their interactions with the community — Basic, Member, Regular, and Leader. Each trust level comes with added features that the user can access and use on an ongoing basis to send group messages, rename and edit posts, pin posts etc.
It’s time to spark discussions
It’s not easy to get technical help with a niche technology like web scraping unless you are relying on a fully managed web scraping service for your data requirements. Considering how complicated the technology is, it is easy to get lost or stuck at times. If you are on your own, you might find it difficult to get critical help on generic forums like Quora and Stackoverflow that are not laser-focused on web scraping.
Being a forum dedicated to web scraping, we hope Web Scraping Forum will spark great discussions and pave way for the formation of a web scraping community that you can always count on when in need.
To sign up on the forum, all you have to do is head over to https://webscrapingforum.promptcloud.com and fill in your details including email, name, username and preferred password. We hope to see you on the forum soon.
